Managing Director


Gary is a founder of Covington and serves as Chief Investment Officer and a member of the firm’s Management Committee.  He is responsible for directing strategic policy and managing the investment team.  With over 40 years in the financial services industry, he was previously a Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager in the Los Angeles office of U.S. Trust Company.  He is a member of the CFA Society of Los Angeles and the CFA Institute. 

Gary graduated from California State University, Fullerton with both a BA and MBA in Finance.  He graduated from the Pacific Coast Graduate School of Banking and Finance at the University of Washington and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.

Gary serves on the Athletic Council of Whittier Area Community Church, is a board member of CAUSE, and is a youth basketball coach.

What is the CFA?

A professional designation awarded by the CFA Institute (formerly AIMR) to investment and financial professionals after demonstrating competence and integrity of financial analysis. Candidates are required to pass three levels of exams covering areas such as accounting, economics, ethics, money management and security analysis. Before becoming a CFA charterholder, you must have four years of qualified investment/financial career experience.
